What a refinish involves
- We assess the existing cabinets honestly. If they are not worth refinishing, we say so.
- The old finish is properly prepped, not just painted over.
- You choose a new stain that shows off the grain or a painted finish in the color you want.
- New hinges and hardware are an easy upgrade while everything is apart.
Pair it with new counters or fronts
Refinishing combines well with new countertops or with new doors and drawer fronts where a door style change is part of the goal. We can quote the options side by side so you can weigh them with real numbers.

Can stained oak cabinets be painted?
Yes. With the right prep and primer, stained oak takes paint well. If you want to keep the grain visible, a fresh stain in a new tone is also an option.
How disruptive is refinishing?
Far less than a remodel. Your kitchen keeps its layout and plumbing, and the work wraps up in much less time than a full cabinet replacement.
When is refinishing the wrong choice?
If the cabinet boxes are failing or the layout does not work for you, refinishing only polishes a problem. In that case we will tell you straight and talk through doors and drawer fronts or a full custom build instead.
